After two successful Running the Railways fundraisers, it’s time for a new challenge! Sponsored by Clan Contracting Ltd and delivered in partnership with Merseyrail, it's time for Running the Railways 3...

On 26–27 June 2026, our fundraiser, Alex Rigby, and a team of runners will take on a 120km relay challenge to raise £24,000 for Centre 56, a place of safety and hope for families in Kirkdale. Starting at 5pm on Friday 26th June, the team will run a 5k every hour, on the hour, for 24 hours, covering the route between Freshfield and Hightown stations. By the end, they will have completed almost three backtoback marathons. Their goal is to raise £1,000 for every hour they run.

For more than 50 years, Centre 56 has provided specialist nursery care for children aged 2–12 who have experienced domestic abuse or crisis situations. We put children first, noting the profound impact that witnessing abuse can have on their development and confidence, and providing a safe, nurturing space for them to learn to process these experiences. We provide vital childcare, safety, and support for families experiencing domestic abuse.

The need for Centre 56’s services has never been greater. Violence against women and girls has recently been declared an epidemic in the UK. According to Refuge, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and one woman is killed by a partner or ex-partner in England and Wales every five days.
